Friday Favorites...End of April!

perfect teen lace dress

If you don't follow me on Facebook or IG then you missed pics of my daughter's first official dance last weekend. It was so fun helping her get ready and my parents flying in to see her made it even more special. It's hard to live away from family so we always appreciate our VIP's, as we like to call them, when visiting.  I didn't have to bust out my rain boots this week but I've been wearing all things preppy for some reason. I can't get enough of Polo and it's just not like me... I'm going to roll with it and roll into the weekend with a smile!  Btw...did April just fly by or is it me?

Friday Favorites...April Showers

neighborhood lake that flooded
What I thought was going to be a very hectic week turned into the complete opposite. A storm that hit Houston earlier this week has caused the city's worst flooding in 15 years. The City of Houston had 225 billion gallons of rain in 24 hours...Crazy I tell ya. Thankfully our home and neighborhood weren't affected by this but school was cancelled due to surrounding areas that were flooded. My heart goes out to all of the families that have lost loved ones and their homes. So with that being said it's been a slow week around here with my favorites but very productive and relaxing around the house. Enjoy your weekend and keep H-town in your thoughts and prayers.

Try It Tuesday...L'Oreal EverPure Repair & Defend Review

I received these products complimentary for testing purposes but all opinions are my own.

I was so excited to receive these L'Oreal EverPure Repair and Defend hair products in the mail a few weeks ago. Trying new shampoo and conditioner is always fun and let me tell you that I have not been disappointed. Have color treated hair that's damaged? No problem, these four products are for you! I've been using the shampoo and conditioner every other day for about two weeks now as well as the leave-in lotion on the days I wash my hair and the hair mask once a week. My hair is on the "fine" side and I find that these products hydrate my hair without weighing it down. Not only do they  have a great scent, but they are inexpensive (definitely not $alon $$$) and I also love the fact that there are no parabens and sulfates. Truly the only negative thing I have to say is that the shampoo and conditioner are a little hard to close but I would definitely recommend this system for someone that has damaged, color treated hair.

Friday Favorites...

orchid in full bloom
This week has been relatively quiet, uneventful and here's to carrying that same vibe through this weekend. So thankful that my mom brought back my orchid in the above pic...that's the second plant she has saved around here! Hope you enjoy my favorites and if you're in the market for a new summer tank, check out mine below. Cheers to the weekend y'all...

Try It Tuesday...Blue Apron

meatless calzone
We all know that weekday dinners can be chaotic and hard to plan especially if you have kids who are involved with after school sports. After going back and forth for months trying to decide if I should try Blue Apron, I finally gave it a go when my sister gave me a coupon to use for two free meals. No brainer right? Out of the four meals that were offered I chose the broccoli and cheese calzones and pork chops with vegetable hash. Although I loved not having to think about what we were going to have for dinner those nights, the meal prep was a little tedious for my liking. I'm not sure if I would order again because I do feel like it's a little pricey for the amount of food but I guess you are paying for the convenience of it all. For example, the calzone's didn't come with a side so thankfully that night I had the ingredients to pull together a caesar salad. Blue Apron isn't for us right now but it's nice to have two new dinner recipes under my belt.

Friday Favorites...

short and blunt for summer
Last Friday I had 3 inches cut off my hair and that alone put a lot of pep in my step this past week! My winter clothes have been switched out to my summer ones and I dug down deep and donated a few bags that I just don't need. It feels good to purge our closets every season doesn't it? Now if I could just get California Closets to come organize me I would be set. Our weekend is jam packed with the kiddos but can't wait to get it started. TGIF and make yours a good one...

Essie vs C&C's Formula X Polish...

On occasion I do go to the salon to get my nails done but most of the time I prefer to do them myself. When I do get them professionally painted I try to have somewhat of an idea what color I'm going to pick because it's too stressful trying to make a rushed decision. If you've been to the nail salon with me you know my struggle is real. Anyway,  I finally had a chance to see Cupcakes & Cashmere's Formula X polish in person last weekend and loved all three colors. As I was standing there trying them on I realized that I had three Essie colors that were very similar to hers so I decided to hold off on purchasing them. Bingo...what do ya know? My colors were almost identical to hers so I did a comparison between the brands for you to see just how close in color they actually are. The picture of the topless and barefoot bottle is off in my opinion but I couldn't fine an online pic that shows the true color. I took my own picture below to show you the actual color...almost identical to Latte Run. It is always nice to have options especially when retailers have been sold out of her limited edition polish around here...
Pretty sure I'm going back to get Latte Run...can't stop thinking about it.

Try It Tuesday...hard boiled eggs the easy way

deviled eggs
Did y'all know that you can bake your eggs instead of boiling them? I just discovered this recently and decided to give it a try this past Easter Sunday. They say to test a few to see how your oven cooks but I just went for it and cooked 12 eggs. They came out "eggsellent" and this is how I will make them from here on out. Here's how...
Preheat oven to 325 degrees
Place eggs in a muffin tin (no water needed)
Cook for 30 minutes
Remove immediately and place in ice bath.
Peel right away.
I baked my eggs for 32 minutes (instead of 30) because I was a little nervous that they wouldn't be done. Mistake... I think that's why mine came out with these brown spots. Maybe I should have done a test run!

I'm looking forward to making these again and here's my recipe for deviled eggs.
serves 24 eggs
12 eggs
1/2 cup vegenaise (or you can use mayo)
1 T yellow mustard
1 t red vinegar
salt & pepper to taste
How to
Mix yolks with above ingredients and sprinkle with paprika. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Friday Favorites...April Fool's

complimentary Nordstrom cookies while shopping
Happy April Fools Day! It's been a hectic but hella good week. The Final Four is here in Houston so that's pretty exciting and I'm pulling for OU to take it all.  I'm also hoping that the rain holds off later this evening so my daughter's district track meet can go as scheduled. She's had a great track season and I'm sad to see it come to an end. Boomer Sooner y'all...
