Friday Favorites...Happy Halloween!

The past couple of years I have found myself putting out less Halloween type decor in the house. I tend to be leaning toward more fall type tchotchke's that I can leave out well into December and sometimes even into January. We seem to have found a soft spot for spiders this time of year so that's the theme we go with and I add a few things each year. This week I didn't make any sort of scary food for dinner but I did manage to break out some Halloweenish tableware to be festive. These napkins that I found at Homegoods were perfect for this year's addition.  I'm still in denial that it's the end of October already but treating myself to a few Reese's Peanut Butter cups will make it all better this weekend. Happy Halloween!

Try It Tuesday...

I don't want to front like I'm in the kitchen cooking healthy meals and snacks all the time because that's not the case. It definitely wasn't the case this past week and weekend since it was non stop with school related "stuff" and just having some fun! So with that said...I don't have any new recipes to have you try but I did manage to come across these 7 iOS 9 hidden iPhone tips on the internet that I had no idea existed. My iPhone is everything to me so I had to share just in case you hadn't discovered them yet.  I think the battery power mode is my favorite tip. Have you tried them?  Click here to view them all!

Friday Favorites...Fall Basics

necklace//stripes (similar here)//cardigan//boots
So it's been over two months since this carmel awesomeness has been hanging in my closet and I still haven't had the chance to wear it because it still feels like summer here! I'm not complaining too much but the struggle is real if you know what I mean. I'm still loving my other basics from last fall and always remember to make sure you have a little fringe to sport around. It's my favorite...TGIF!

Try It Tuesday...King Ranch Chicken Mac'n Cheese

flatware//napkin (sold out but similar here)//bowl
This is everything you've always wanted in a casserole recipe. Easy, inexpensive and delish...for reals. Everyone has always talked about this King Ranch Chicken recipe here in Texas and I've been a little hesitant to make it, but it turned out to be a hit. We all had second helpings the night I made it...either the kids were really hungry or they just really liked it! Give it a try and click here for the recipe. BTW I did nix the prepared cheese product and used an 8 oz bag of mixed shredded cheese in it's place.

Friday Favorites...

I'm all about shortened school weeks and sweet treats to celebrate! I'm pretty sure next week will be a shocker with a full five days of school because I could get used to these three and a half day school weeks. I did manage to find a new pair of jeans that I can't seem to stop thinking about but my NB '696' unfortunately had to go back. We also pulled off another weekly date night at a new restaurant that was delish. TGIF everyone...

Try It Tuesday...

So this past summer my kids found a new love for baked potatoes thanks to our friends who decided to make them for dinner one night on our summer vacay. We've been on a roll ever since and they are the easiest sides to make. Easy prep with olive oil, salt & pepper that I used to brush on and sprinkle until my light bulb moment last night. Now I put them in a bag with oil & seasoning so they are evenly coated. Brilliant! Maybe some of you already prep yours like this but since I'm new to the baked potato game just thought I would share.
I bake mine on 350 for an hour uncovered. Don't forget to fork your potatoes ;)

Friday Favorites...OOTD & Spooky Spiders

shades (similar)//tshirt//denim//blazer//sneakers (similar)

I've never been fond of wearing blazers until recently. The blazer fairy has hit hard here and within the past two months, I seem to have found two blazers that fit me like a glove. It's amazing what you can do if you set your mind to it. Don't worry, I'm not getting all fancy. I'll be keeping this look casual with fun t-shirts and shoes. This one was under $30 and love how casual and stretchy the material is. Even though the temperatures have dropped a little, inside the stores and restaurants they still keep the temps as if it were 100 degrees outside. I'm always prepared with a sweater and now I love how I can keep warm with a casual blazer. Seriously, check it out...this item is a steal. In other news, I finally put a few Halloween decorations around the house because my kids still get a kick out of it!

Try It Tuesday...Chicken Noodle Soup

If you don't have a "go to" homemade chicken noodle soup recipe...then look no further. This is the easiest thing to make and boy is it good! I've made it two weeks in a row because soups are one of my favorite dinners to make in the fall and winter and especially when the cold symptoms have hit the kids here lately. Soups are easy, healthy and there never seems to be any complaints when we sit down at the dinner table.  I know the boxed soups are convenient to throw into your cart at the store, especially when they are on sale, but this homemade chicken noodle tastes so much better and takes no time at all. Check it out...

What you need
1 T butter
1/2 c chopped onion
1/2 c chopped celery
1 c chopped carrots
1/2 t basil
1/2 t oregano
2 cloves garlic
 salt & pepper to taste
64 oz chicken broth
1 14.5 oz can vegetable broth
1/2 lb cooked chicken breast-chopped
1 1/2 cup noodles of your choice (I used rotini here but sometimes I use egg noodles)

How to
Melt butter and cook onion, celery & garlic until tender. About 5 minutes.
Add all of the other ingredients and bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for about 20 minutes before serving.

I always serve this with soup crackers and a couple of dashes of hot sauce ;) Enjoy friends...

Friday Favorites...

This week has felt "like for ever" but glad to say TGIF! Even though it was a long week I felt like a lot was accomplished around this house of ours. I even knocked out homemade chicken soup. I'll post my recipe next's sooooo easy. I've had the above print for quite some time, as in two years maybe, and this is the third wall it has graced. Pretty sure it's going to stay put although I think it would be perfection in my daughter's room. I'm just not ready to let go of it quite yet! I'm up for 48 hours of not being held to a tight schedule and to choosing however we want to spend our days. Have a wonderful weekend everyone...
