I love the idea of having a casual, stylish "uni" to always go to on those busy days where you want to look cute but comfort is key. I have a lot of these days where I'm running errands all day and then going to and from my kids games/practices at night. As I've been decluttering my wardrobe and keeping only those pieces that bring me joy (oh man, more on this later) I noticed that I didn't have a decent plain gray sweatshirt to wear during the day. What? That's insane...everyone needs to have a gray sweatshirt in their clothing rotation. Luckily the Gap came through for me this week and I found the best, lightweight sweatshirt to spend my busy days in. It has been perfect for this week of 70 degree weather. Y'all meet my newest addition and yes, this uniform will be on major repeat for the days to come!
I've needed reading glasses ever since I went and had my eyes checked last May. Was it absolutely necessary that I get them to read? No, especially since my script was so low and when every pair I liked were supah, dupah expensive (even with our insurance allowance) so I decided to hold off.
Best decision ever because last December a rep from Firmoo.com contacted me and asked if I would be interested in trying their product and reviewing it here on my blog. I had never heard of this company but heck yes I will try them!
So they have a wide variety to choose from and you can virtually try them on by uploading a picture of yourself. I actually did this and felt like it really helped me to make my decision...especially with the color selection.
I picked my pair, uploaded my prescription and was pleasantly surprised when I received them. Their customer service was fantastic, delivery was a little slow, but to their defense...I started this process during the holiday season.
They are absolutely perfect for reading and I couldn't beat the price. If you are interested you can check out Firmoo's First Pair Free Program here.
*Disclosure: I received a free pair of glasses from Firmoo in exchange for a review on my blog. All opinions are my own and I received no monetary compensation.
These "polaroid" snapshots are really becoming a thing with me, don't you just love the vintage look?Boy did this week flew by fast! There's nothing better than a short school week and I sure did enjoy having Monday off to hang with my kiddos. I also enjoyed finally getting my reading glasses in the mail (more on that next week) and the warmer weather earlier in the week didn't hurt either, crazy how warmer weather never hurt anybody, huh?
Had to break out the goodpops to celebrate and still crushing on my SK8-Hi Slim's.
My man knows just what to bring me home as a souvenir from the desert. Wish I could have gone with him, but bringing a little piece of the sun valley back is the next best thing.
My makeup arsenal isn't much to be desired. Cosmetics have never been my thing and most of my beauty products are natural and paraben free...boring to most people! I stick with the basics when it comes to putting my face on but this past week my daughter introduced me to some new products to step my game up. Oh by the way, she's twelve and has a huge passion obsessed with makeup these days. Since they had the day off school yesterday she was my makeup artist and I was amazed with her skills! Anyway, I'm kind of digging these products and thought I would share them with you since it is Try It Tuesday after all.
This primer makes your eyelids come to life! It helps with redness & discoloration on your eyelids. I might have to make this a part of my everyday beauty routine since it's well worth the $20. I've never used a primer before, have you?
Urban Decay is all the rage right now and I love how easy this eye pencil glides on. This was a sample that I received but I can't find the ink (navy) color online...sometimes it's fun to switch up the color of your eyeliner.
Covergirl's new mousse mascara with beeswax definitely gives my lashes a fuller look without clumping. So far so good for this drugstore brand. It's definitely a must try for $6.99.
The only thing better than being warm and comfortable on days where you are on the go from morning until night in cold weather, is looking stylish while you do it! Originally, I was looking for a faux fur coat for winter, but then this neutral shaggy number caught my eye and it was perfect for the look I was going for. This past Wednesday was a full day for me and I threw on this outfit before heading out the door. I had to dust off my leopard booties that were on major repeat last winter because I've neglected to wear them due to a few other pairs that had been justifiably purchased for this winter...uhmmm. Sorry leopard booties, I had forgotten how much I adore you. I just might have to bust them out again for a night out this weekend. We have a low key weekend planned; and as always, I am looking forward to it along with a little warmer weather here in Houston.
The sun hasn't made an appearance in well over a week here in Houston. It has been dreary, cold and rainy which is the perfect mix for me to not want to leave the house. I'm taking full advantage of this weather and making lots of soups and comfort foods. One of my favorite restaurants from back home is Cleveland-Heath and their brussel sprouts are the best I've ever had. Actually, I just started eating them four years ago because I couldn't resist trying them when a friend of mine ordered them for lunch. Luckily, I came across their recipe in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch over this past Christmas break and they've been on repeat ever since we came back to H-town. Click here to view the recipe and I promise you these will warm your soul and guarantee they will get you through the cold months.
Can we talk about how gorgeous everyone was walking the red carpet last night for the Golden Globe Awards? Around the house has to be put on the side burner today so I can share my favorite looks with y'all. Here we go...
Mrs. Channing Tatum was a breath of fresh air in her yellow Carolina Herrera
Reese wearing a metallic Calvin Klein
Emma Stone nailing it in Lanvin
Kate in Versace but I would have loved to see her hair down
This pranayama scarf is one of my favorite Christmas presents that I received this year. It looks like it was a favorite with everyone because when I went to lululemon's website to search for it this is what I found!
Anyway, I love this cozy layer to keep warm in these frigid temps. I wish I had some pictures to show you how I style it but this week has been all about getting back into the swing of things with the kids going back to school and there hasn't been a lot of photo ops ;)
Here are a few of my other random favorites from this past week if you didn't see them on my IG.
I think Reese's Peanut Butter cups are the perfect combo of chocolate & peanut butter. This spread was delicious and it took snack time to a whole new level. The kids like it on apple slices and crackers but you could even dip pretzels in it for the salty & sweet kind of taste. After it's all said and done I do prefer the cups over the spread.
"I received these products complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes."
Champs for the last day of Christmas break...
Took advantage of the one warm day this week to get some fresh air with my 574's & my favorite junie b. She is such a ham for the camera.
My parents always said that I would cartwheel everywhere when I was younger and now I guess I've stepped it up a notch. My vice these days is busting into handstands whenever I feel the need to stop, drop and yoga. I've passed by this wall at lululemon many times, too many to count according to my husband...but this one particular night I felt that doing a handstand in front of it would make this picture just a tad more fun and I'm all about having more fun this year. It is only appropriate to share this saying with everyone since I think we can always use some strong, motivating words to kick off the nuevo ano.
Picture this...the holidays are over, it's cold, it's dreary and I am in desperate need of a good soup recipe to lift my spirits. Let's give a big high five to Pinterest and to damndelicious.net for this amazing quinoa chili recipe that was prepared Sunday night for dinner. It's super delish, super healthy, super easy...the only downside was that it didn't pass the taste test with my kiddos. They prefer regular chili but I'm happy that they tried it. FYI-I only used 1/2 of the spice amount this recipe called for but we always doctor it up with hot sauce & I decided not to add the black beans. I am a huge lover of black beans but just not in my chili ;) This chili replaces meat with quinoa and has a mexican flare to it. I just might have to add this to our Taco Tuesday dinner rotation. If you're looking for a new healthy twist on chili this is it. Oh and be sure to thank Chungah over at her blog damn delicious if you like it!
