Try It Tuesday...

So it's now officially fall, although it doesn't really feel like it here in H-town it's time to come up with a few soups to add to my repertoire. I have a meat & meatless chili, french onion soup and a taco soup that are pretty kick ass! The two most important things about these soups is that they are easy to make and the kids truly like them. I limit my dairy intake and try to do the same with my family so when I came across Philosophie's creamy non-dairy broccoli soup it was a no brainer to make. I have mad love for her protein powders and can't wait to make her raw truffles for dessert. So far this soup has been a hit with my husband so I am crossing my fingers that after the kids try it tonight for dinner, I will be able to add this one to my arsenal. Looking for new soup mugs? Take a look at these...

Around the house...

I choose to eat outside every time the opportunity presents itself. There's nothing better than fresh air and good food for the ultimate dining experience. Although I prefer round tables I have been drawn more to the opposite lately while looking for an outdoor dining set. It's patio season here in Houston and I'm on the hunt for a new table & chairs for our backyard. Obviously this isn't the typical time to make this type of purchase but I'm finding there are some really great closeout deals. There are so many different styles to choose from but I am ruling out iron and the color black. Hopefully that will narrow it down a bit. The search is on and the above picture would be my ideal setting if I could just find a down sized version of this & the adorable family picture that's displayed ;) Here are some other great tables that I found while surfing the internet:

This gray table could brighten up my area.
I heart this round table.

Friday Favorites...

Oops I did it again. No, I didn't leave Britney on repeat, but I did sign up for another 5k tomorrow and at this point I am not quite sure how I feel about it. Training for this (yes, I have to train to run 3.1 miles) hasn't been my top priority lately, but I am looking forward to the challenge and to wearing my favorite running shorts and runners at the moment. Nike isn't usually what I choose to run in but it's a known fact that I prefer my running shoes to be pink and so far I've been happy with them. I'm not sure why I haven't tried the compression socks/sleeves yet...they would probably make me run like Forrest. Currently what are your favorite running shoes and do you prefer a certain color?

Try It Tuesday...

Last weekend as I was running into Target to grab a few things, it just so happens that a Wit & Delight end cap display caught my "well trained" eye. This new collection from blogger Kate Arends has me wanting to throw some type of par-tay pronto. I was in a rush so I quickly grabbed her snack containers with condiment holders (the best) and was off to my Saturday obligations. Last night I tried them out with the kids at dinner with their sweet potato fries & ketchup and they were a hit! They will be perfect for a quick snack in the car when they have to eat on the run. Click here to view her whole collection so you can start your party planning...
Fries in a box and a sandwich in my basket...
The condiment holder will be perfect on the go...

Around the house...

Last weekend I came across an e-mail from One Kings Lane and as soon as I saw their feature on Jenni Kayne's home I had to immediately shop her look. Her fashion line is California inspired and uncomplicated so I knew her home was going to have the same feel. I am so drawn to a clean, cozy, less is more look and her house is just that. I noticed that a lot of her items were vintage and then of course I had to look up what makes a piece vintage vs antique. Click here to read an article that sums up the differences between the two. It's so interesting, plus I love the fact that the term vintage started with wine. It's a must read! Here are some of my favorites from her modern, rustic retreat:

Friday Favorites...Leopard vs.Cheetah

Everyone needs a touch of animal print in their wardrobe and I'm going to share some of my favorites below after I discuss the difference between leopard & cheetah print. I always questioned what print I was wearing because I really wasn't sure so let me lay it out for you.
Leopard spots are lighter in the middle while cheetah spots are solid as you can see from the images above! O.k. so now here are some of my favorites for the fall.

Nugent Wedges
I bought these wedge boots last winter but I now have my eye on these ankle boots
This clutch is absolutely perfect for a touch of animal. Click here for the deets.

Style for a steal at Forever21

An animal coat or sleepwear is also a great option!

Women Crush Wednesday guessed it Kate Hudson again!  I'm pretty sure I will never get tired of her style and how she can pull off any look. I can't wait to re-create this outfit when the temperatures cool down here a little bit. Although I'm not one to wear heels a lot because it might be uncomfortable running kids to football practice and cheer in these and we just don't get out too much. TBH I love shoes so that is the only excuse that I need to have a pair of these basic heels!

Around The House...

This past weekend here in Houston we had much cooler temperatures and I know it might be hard to imagine but it almost felt like fall! So immediately my mind went to fall and halloween decorating. Last year I didn't put a lot of halloween decor out but kept it simple with my display of my velvet pumpkins. This year I might switch it up after all of the inspiration I found online and thumbing through my catalogs.

These beauties will be making their debut this week!
Love this owl with the mix of pumpkins for my table.

How fun would it be to have a Los Muertos party! Read more about it here.

Pottery Barn now has free shipping on Halloween Decor and today only World Market has 25% off on their Halloween items! Sure makes it tempting doesn't it?
How do you decorate for fall/halloween?

Friday Favorites...

I can't begin to tell you how much I'm lovin' this striped/shredded tee. Houston is still scorching hot but I've been chompin' at the bit to wear this. I haven't worn these jeans in awhile either and somehow they were a little tight when I slipped them on to head out for the day. I think...that just maybe I might have had one too many 'rita's this summer but when my husband and friend, Melinda make the best ones in town you can't have just one. Anyway, back to this rad shirt of mine...I can't stop thinking of all the ways I can wear it. It will definitely be on repeat this fall and winter since it will look good with jeans, leggings, boots, leather jacket, etc. I played around with wearing boots but those will have to wait. Instead I wore my favorite summer sandals and will continue to wear these well into the fall!

Wednesday Happenings... Bathroom Reveal

Yesterday I showed you our DIY towel bar out of a baseball sign our son had hanging in his room for years. Well all of the hard work has paid off and now these little changes we made to our son's bathroom turned out to make a huge difference! What I love most is that it only took a weekend to give him a whole new refreshed space, with minimal cost. Once again, my bad that I forgot to take a before pic but here are the details for the finished project!

A new paint color was the first change we made. Goodbye brown & hello clean white!
My budget didn't allow to change the countertops or the vanity so I just painted it to give it a new look. It used to be a muddy brown color that I despised and still do in multiple rooms of our home. I used Annie Sloan's chalk paint in pure white and in a few hours I had my "new" vanity.
We also installed handles on the cabinets to give it a finished look. I had previously purchased the rug a few months ago.
I thought our DIY towel rack needed a little something above it to complete the look. The metal #3 (his baseball number) is something I picked up from the infamous Round Top Antique Market in Round Top, TX a couple of years ago.
But of course he needed a baseball nightlight!
The striped shower curtain was also purchased when I bought his rug.
Previously there was nothing above the toilet so I reframed this picture that he had hanging in his room of him and his dad walking off the field for one last time together.
We couldn't be more thrilled with how this project turned out. I was happy to filter some of his baseball decor into another space, to keep the cost down. The most important thing is that Jack loves it!

Try It Tuesday...

DIY Towel Bar

Work with me here as I forgot to take a before picture! My son's bathroom is getting a makeover-a side bar to Project Best Day Ever. I took down his traditional towel bar in hopes to find some hooks for him to hang his towel up since he has a habit of leaving them on the ground. I thought it might be less of a "chore" for him if he could just throw it on a hook. After looking around at different ideas I still came up with nothing.  He had the above sign hanging in his room (since he was 2!) We took it down because we were painting and I was on the fence whether to hang it back up or not. Props goes to my hubby for coming up with the idea of installing hooks on the sign and totaling repurposing the sign as a towel bar for him to use in his bathroom. We bought three black metal hooks and screwed them into the board.
Voila! Be sure to check back tomorrow to see his completed bathroom makeover.

Monday Decor...HomeGoods Happy

Every now and then I pop into HomeGoods to see what hidden gems I can find.  I hit the jackpot this past weekend when I came across a few things I wasn't looking for but desperately needed to spruce up a few areas in our home.
This pink faux sheepskin is the perfect pop of color that my daughter needed for her couch.

Please ignore the shadow in this pic but this rug is perfect for our downstairs bath!

Hope y'all had a good weekend!

Friday Favorites...

Kate Hudson has always been a favorite of mine in movies and fashion. Her street style is always so  flawless wether she's in workout gear, hitting the beach or just casual-chic out on the town . Can you say girl crush?  I came across this picture and wanted to re-create her outfit. I've had a pencil skirt like this in my closet for awhile but haven't found a reason to wear it. Maybe it's because I spent most of my summer days in workout clothes and at the pool. Now that school is back in sesh I'm going to pull this outfit together and find a reason to wear it. I'm not quite sure what brands she is wearing but I did some research and came up with similar items. Check out how you can pull off her look for less below.

Back at the yard for Labor Day...

Our long Labor Day weekend spent with our favorite Arizona peeps in Scottsdale was nothing less than a blast! It went by in a flash... We hiked, soaked up the sun, ate some great food, had a lot of laughs and just enjoyed spending time together again. Oh, Mark & Jack played a little Diamondbacks baseball too. Click here to see his hit which was the only run driven in for his team (the white team-how appropriate right?) I rocked my white denim for one last time and it was the perfect way to end summer...
In the suite before the game...what a spread they put on!
Jack and his friend made up their own dessert in the suite...chocolate chip brownie sandwich!
Take note boys...wear your pants up.
