Friday Favorites...

There's nothing I love more than a soft, comfortable tee and comfy kicks to spend my day in. I wore this last week while lunching with a friend, running errands and carting the kiddos around town. Ascot and Hart are killing it with the t's these days. Nike Air Pegasus '83...one of the only few good things that happened in the eighties besides "Big Hair" bands.
I'm hanging on to this jacket for dear life! I think warmer temps are right around the corner so wanted to make sure I wore it at least one more time.

Try It Tuesday...Healthy Cookie Dough

This ain't your momma's cookie dough yo...

My hubby's chocolate chip cookies are the best ever but obviously not so healthy. You will also find me eating the cookie dough by the spoonful when he's making them so when I came across Maria Baum's healthy cookie dough recipe on Tracy Anderson' blog I didn't hesitate to make it. The first bite was a little strange but once I put it in the fridge to chill for an hour or so and gave it another try it was much better. By day two I was in heaven and didn't stop until the bowl was empty!
The ingredient list is small and it's so easy to make. There weren't any directions with her recipe but this is how I made it. Remember this is only cookie dough...it's not meant for actually making cookies.
healthy cookie dough
1 can/box well rinsed garbanzo beans
1/4 c almond butter
4 T oats
3 T agave nectar
2 t pure vanilla extract
1/4 t sea salt
1/4 t baking soda
1/3 c (or more) dark chocolate chips

Put the first three ingredients in a food processor and mix well.
Then add the remaining ingredients-except for the chips- and mix again.
I transfered my "dough" to a bowl and then stirred in the chocolate chips.

Friday Favorites-La Playa Beach Resort...

Last week we were lucky enough to spend part of our spring break with my parents in Southwest Florida hanging in the warm weather and soaking up the sunshine. As always, we spent time on the beach, shopping and getting our rounds of putt putt golf in!  We never leave until we go to one of our favorite places La Playa Beach Resort. This quaint little beach resort takes you back to the '60's and will make you want to throw on a "lilly" shift dress and some chalky pink polish while watching the sunset. I didn't pull out my "lilly" dress for this trip but brought this favorite outfit to wear.
The bell is always rung at sunset to mark the end of another perfect day.
And then on to the best part of the night...roasting s'mores!
We have made many memories here with family and friends over the years and La Playa will continue to be one of our favorite places.

hello spring...

Spring is officially here and what better way to celebrate than by trying a new polish on your nails! Green polish has never appealed to me until I saw Fashion Playground by Essie in their spring 2014 collection. The hint of shimmer in this pistachio green polish has me daydreaming of sitting pool side with an umbrella in my drink.
Heads up... Essie is out of stock. Target has been out of it as well. I was lucky enough to grab one bottle out of the two they had earlier this week. What's your favorite polish color for spring?

Happy Spring!

Try It Tuesday-Trust The Bum...

Do you Trust The Bum?
After our spring break trip to South Florida (more on that later this week) I definitely do. I kept seeing this Sun Bum brand on-line so I was definitely on the hunt for it in local retail stores. I finally stumbled upon this sunscreen about a month ago in Nordstrom and I couldn't wait to smell it! I took the lid off and it was like summer in a bottle. The banana fragrance in this line smells so good I was immediately hooked. Their products are paraban/paba free which is another reason I love Sun Bum. Don't worry, their sunscreen isn't sticky and thick like a lot of products on the market.
I bought the Moisturizing Sunscreen Lotion, the Moisturizing After Sun Lotion, the Zinc Oxide, the Sunscreen Face Stick and the Sunscreen Lip Balm (these last two I keep on me at all times). It is not like we have that many surf shops in Houston, however, these products are in all of the shops in Florida. Give Sun Bum a try and Hang Ten brah...

Have you tried this brand?
If so, where do you buy it?

p.s. all opinions are my own and no compensation was received.

Try It Tuesday...Veggie Chili

Who would have thought that it was chili weather last week in Houston?  It was cold, icy and a bowl of hot soup was in order. It was perfect timing after seeing Emily's recipe on her blog about chili and cornbread that inspired me to whip up some of my own.

I was craving a veggie chili that still gave me the hearty taste of having meat in it. After browsing over several recipes that looked great I came up with my own version...using mushrooms! It was surprisingly good and will be our go to recipe from here on out.

Veggie Chili

1 T olive oil
1 small onion
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 1/2 cups of diced fresh mushrooms of your choice (I used baby portobello)
1 T cumin powder
1T chili powder
2 boxes of kidney beans (drained & rinsed)
1 box of black beans (drained & rinsed)
2 26.46 oz San Marzano crushed tomatoes
2 1/2 cups of water
salt & pepper to taste
red pepper flakes to taste

Heat olive oil in large pot and add onions to saute. Add your mushrooms and a pinch of salt and stir evenly to coat with olive oil. Spread them out in your pot, add the garlic and cook for 5-6 minutes until they are a nice brown color.
Next add your tomatoes, beans, water and spices.
Bring to a boil, reduce to low heat and then simmer for 20-25 minutes.

Friday Favorites...

I wore ankle boots all winter long and now that warmer weather is right around the corner I needed a pair of comfy shoes to transition into spring. I've been eyeing these Nike hidden wedges for over a year now but never thought I could pull off this look. I couldn't stop thinking about them so I new it was time to splurge on these black Nike 'Dunk Sky Hi' Wedges. My favorite way to wear these right now is with leggings and my ruffled ankle socks.

P.S. Nike always seem to run small on me and with these wedges I ordered one size up.

Try It Tuesday with Kevin.Murphy...

I've never been very good with styling my hair...that is probably why I wear it up so much. I'm always looking for new products to help me achieve that look right after you walk out of the hair salon. Recently I've been dabbling with Kevin.Murphy products and I am loving them. Guess what? They are also sulphate & paraben free. knuckles.

I first purchased the POWDER.PUFF volumising (not a typo because that's how they spell it) powder to give my fine hair some lift. The price is a little shocking but you do not need a lot of it to get the job done. Plus, I don't use it everyday so I can easily justify the purchase.
Since I don't wash my hair everyday I need to use a dry shampoo to soak up the grease! The ones I have tried before always had an offensive smell and/or I would break out around my hairline. FRESH.HAIR is the best dry cleaning spray I have found and worth every penny. There is no odor and it works wonderfully. I just spray this on the sides of my hair and run my fingers through it. It gives you that oh so fresh feel.

My next purchase is going to be the ANTI.GRAVITY.SPRAY. You can find these products along with others for different types of hair on amazon too. I would love to know if you have used any of these products and if there's one you think I should try for my thin, fine hair!
