Friday Favorites...American Hustle!

Who's ready for the Oscar's red carpet this Sunday?  Every year I look forward to watching the actors strut their stuff and this year I can't wait to see what the American Hustle cast will be wearing. Have you seen this movie yet? If not, you have to see the Academy Award nominated is off the chain. Didn't it want to make you want to get in touch with your inner 70's? Here are a few of my favorite American Hustle looks from ShopStyle by Popsugar

This Gucci number would be my choice if I was heading to the Oscars this year.
These fringe earrings would be a perfect match with this dress. Can you believe they are $22? That's what I call Style for a Steal!
If only I had some place to wear these...

Don't forget the sunnies!

Influenster J'Adore Vox Box Review

There's nothing better than receiving a box full of surprises in the mail. Last week Influenster sent me the JadoreVoxBox for a belated valentine's day present! I was so excited that they picked me.
Yes, I received these products complimentary for testing purposes from Influenster which is free to join if you like to give opinions of products and experiences ;) No, you don't have to have a blog to join in on the fun.

First things first, of course I had to have a couple of Hershey Kisses (an 18.5 oz bag btw) they sent me while I looked through the rest of my goodies.

Frizz Ease 3-Day Straight Flat Iron Spray-It is infused with Keratin spray so it will help to protect my hair from the flat iron. This spray has a good smell which is always important in choosing hair products right?

Boots Botanics Shine Away Ionic Clay Mask I love a clay mask and was excited to try this one out. It's unscented which I liked and it left my skin feeling softer and smoother. It felt good to draw out my impurities with this.

Red Rose Simply Indulgent Teas I'm not much of a tea drinker these days unless it's kombucha. I'll leave these for my daughter to sample!

It was nice of them to include the Vaseline Men Spray Lotion for the hubbs! He actually loved how fast it absorbed and that it didn't leave him sticky or greasy. I don't love the parabens in it.
KISS Looks So Natural Lashes  These lashes look really natural and sure wish I had somewhere to wear them! I've worn fake lashes once for an event I was going to but didn't put them on myself. Not sure I have the patience for it! Although if you're fancy you might want to try these out for yourself.

Disclosure: This complimentary box was received for review purposes. All opinions are my own and no compensation was received.

Try It Tuesday...DIY Taco Seasoning

I'm no Rick Bayless but my taco seasoning kicks ass.

Most mexican nights I use the packaged taco seasoning for the kids tacos. You know...the one that makes you soooo thirsty after you are done eating them. Well last Tuesday I changed all of that like a Charlie's Angel when I decided to whip up my own be quite honest I realized that I was out of the pre-made stuff...Egads! and really had no choice but to go all types of "Rick Bayless" on that organic, grass-fed ground beef!  As always, everything happens for a reason and this is what I came up with.
DIY taco seasoning
1 T chili powder
1 T ground cumin
1 T garlic powder
1 T onion powder
1/4-1/2  t red pepper flakes
I mixed these spices up with my 1 lb. beef and 2/3 c of water and never looked back. It turned out much better than expected because it wasn't so strong as some of the packages can be. Using the 1/4 t of red pepper flakes was enough heat for my kids but you can always add more or spice it up with your favorite hot sauce.

Do you DIY taco seasoning or buy packaged?

Friday Favorites...

I stumbled upon this super friendly hello t while in napa last month. It's soft, gray and it made me smile so I bought it. Notice the silver ring on my finger? Here's a close up pic:
It's my favorite new and only cuff ring I own and for some reason I can't stop thinking about wearing it on the beach...Check it out here on James Michelle's site. I also wore earrings with this outfit.

The pink stone was perfect with my pink converse for valentine's day...I'm not sure if this chick Kendra Scott still makes this style since they are about three years old. The link will take you to similar ones.
P.S. this post isn't sponsored in any way. Just wanted to share what I like in case you might like it too and need a little isnpiration!
P.S.S. It's National Margarita Day tomorrow (2/22) so get crazy and maybe have one.  You might want to try this one we made last Labor Day.

Try It Tuesday...

This potato soup recipe caught my eye as I was thumbing through my March issue of Real Simple. I'm not a big fan of potato soup but my hubby is. Plus last week it was cold, as in Houston cold and this hit the spot.
It was actually really easy to make and it went into the recipe book as a keeper. Jack's not real happy about it but the rest of us are ;) Click here to try this loaded bacon-potato soup for yourself...

Try these EASY valentine's day treat bags...

My kids look forward to the conversation hearts every year for valentine's day. Awhile back I came across these printables from howdoesshe's website and thought this would be the perfect treat to surprise them with in their lunch this week.
I  folded the top half of my heart filled sandwich bag over and stuck it between the label.
Staple both sides. I used a full size sandwich bag but I think a snack size would work better.
These would also make cute class valentine's!

Friday Favorites...

I had to break out this shaggy faux fur vest for my birthday weekend. Big rings always make me happy and Kendra Scott does an awesome job with them. Everyone needs birthday nails and I chose this liquid sand for my big day!

Try It Tuesday...Bar.B.Q. Shrimp

Mark and I love seafood and made this bar.b.q. shrimp for Superbowl Sunday. It's so easy...I swear it is and only takes 7 ingredients! My Aunt Dee shared this recipe with me years ago and it's one of our favorites. It reminds me of  Mr. B's Barbequed Shrimp at Mr. B's in NOLA.  So if you aren't afraid to get your hands a little messy and are ready to indulge in a little butter then this recipe is for you! Check it out...
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and make sure you have a 9 x 13 dish.

1. 1 lb of peel on raw prawn shrimp...the biggest you can find. Stick to 1/2 lb. per person.
2. 1 1/2 -2 sticks of butter, garlic, worcestershire sauce, 2-3 bay leaves, hot sauce, pepper.
3. Melt your butter in a sauce pan, then add your garlic cloves. I use 5-6 cloves.
4. Add your worcestershire to your liking. I like to add it until my mix is a dark brown.
5. Take off stove and let cool.
6. In a 9x13 pan add your raw shrimp. When butter mixture is cool pour over shrimp.

After pouring butter mixture over shrimp sprinkle lots of pepper and cholula (hot sauce of your choice) on top. Make sure your shrimp is covered. Then place 2-3 bay leaves on top and cook for about 15 minutes or until shrimp turns pink.

I serve it with french bread to dip into the butter.
Peel, eat and enjoy!
