I feel a cleanse coming on...

Her name is Sophie
 and
I dig her philosophie.
 That's why I'm 
 starting this week off with a 5 day cleanse from Philosophie

It's fall (even though it doesn't feel like it because it's still hotter than Hades here in Texas)  so what better time to purge my body of unwanted toxins and supercharge myself for the busy upcoming months. 

I'm so excited!!! (hmmm...song reference?)

 Mark has done the master cleanse and it scared the heck out of me! No food for a week? No thank you! I love to eat and the thought of me not nourishing my body for that long scares me. 

 I love Sophie's Green Dream, Berry Bliss & Cacao Magic superfood protein powders so I thought why not try her cleanse for 5 days. She doesn't deprive you of foods...it's full of fiber, protein and good fats. I can handle this right?

I couldn't wait to get my cleanse box in the mail. Here's what it looks like when you open it up.

The 5 day cleanse includes the three protein/superfood powders, detox tea, cleansing pills & the detox bath. You will also receive via email your menu, recipes, 7 tips for the cleanse.


With this 5 day cleanse you have to make your meals which I'm fine with.  The recipes look yummy and seem really simple to prepare.

Active Nation Day This Sunday...

I follow this Aussie- Lorna Jane- on Instagram. Her daily motivation and pics of her workout gear are so inspiring  I had to write about it and share! September 30th in Australia is Active Nation Day and she's challenging everyone to get ACTIVE...make your move count, make a change whether it's taking a bike ride, attending a yoga class, or simply taking a family walk. 

Why don't we take this challenge here, wherever you are! Just because we don't live in Australia doesn't mean we can't join in on the fun. My team will be active this Sunday...will yours? I challenge you to get outside and get movin' even if it's only for 30 minutes!

Move Nourish Believe is her motto and lets remind ourselves constantly of this and especially this coming Sunday.

What I brought home from Round Top last weekend...

It happens twice a year (April & October)...the infamous Round Top Antique Show in Round Top, TX and the surrounding small rural communities. 

People flock from all over to attend miles of vendors selling everything from fine art to flea market finds. If you haven't been and if you're close you really should think about checking it out.

My parents were in town last week so of course my mom and I drove an hour and a half to Warrenton, Tx to start our adventure. Although a lot of vendors weren't set up yet (it's technically the first weekend in October but vendors start setting up a week before) but there was well over enough there for my mom to see what all the madness is all about.
I brought home two of these european vintage door knockers.


 Unfortunately, I don't have  a door I can put this horsey on but it's hanging right by the front door so everyone can enjoy.  The other one will have to wait until I find a home for it.

Try It Tuesday with Kale...


I'm always looking for healthy veggie recipes that my whole team can enjoy... It's not easy. While I was thumbing through my yoga journal magazine last week this recipe caught my eye-btw...I don't like pesto but this is an exception!

I love kale and it turns out that we all love it and this recipe.
 Score! 
Another yummy easy vegetarian meal to put in my repertoire.

What you'll need:
4 cups stemmed, chopped black kale (about 1 bunch)
1 cup grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, plus more for serving
6 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup pine nuts
2 garlic cloves, chopped
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1 pound fettuccine

Putting it all together:
1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Meanwhile, fill a large bowl with ice & cold H2O.
2. Plunge the kale into boiling water for 3 minutes. With tongs transfer the kale to the ice water.

 Drain kale in a colander and squeeze out excess water.
3. Puree the kale in a food processor with 1/2 cup cheese and remaining ingredients (except pasta) until smooth.
4. Return water to a boil and add the fettuccine. Cook according to package directions until al dente.
5. Just before the pasta is done, remove 2 T pasta cooking water and add it to the kale pesto. Add remaining 1/2 cup cheese and mix well.
6. Drain the pasta, and then toss with kale pesto.

I followed this recipe to a t.  It was a little too dry, a little spicy for the kiddos and a tad too salty for our taste buds. So FYI...next time I make this (and if you like less heat & salt try this) I will adjust the ingredients and use 1/2 tsp of salt, 1/8 tsp red pepper flakes and 4 tablespoons of pasta water.

Boom...

Phillip Lim made his debut in Target yesterday and it was slim pickings when I arrived around 9:30 yesterday morning.
I'm usually not a fan of the designer lines that are made for Target although I always have to take a peek! Obviously the Target line isn't the same quality but sometimes there's a few items that surprise me. 
Boom...These are the two things that got my attention yesterday.


I'm crazy over gray sweatshirts but not sure if this is a keeper. It's not as soft as I would like but I'm kind of loving the screen print super hero look of this.



When I initially walked in there were ZERO totes left in the collection which made me a little teary eyed because I really wanted to compare the real Phillip Lim with the Target collection. Funny that when I came out of the dressing room this beauty of a bag was hanging by itself...I took that as a sign that it was meant to be.
It's home with me now and I think this is a keeper! Loving that I can carry it with the top handle or wear it as a crossbody bag.

Music for Monday Morning...

If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter you would know that I ran in another 5k this past weekend! I can see how these races can get addicting... I don't think I'm ready for a 10k yet but I would like to sign up for another 5k here in the near future to keep me in search of that runner's high.

How we spent our last weekend of summer...

I couldn't think of a better way to end our summer than spending Labor Day Weekend in Scottsdale with awesome friends at an awesome resort, seeing my man in his uni and a little Diamondbacks baseball!

The Diamondbacks held their 2nd annual alumni game last Saturday night and it was a privilege for us to make the trip and watch Mark put  #11 on again. We watched the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the San Francisco Giants 4-3 in walk off fashion. The thirty thousand  fans that stuck around then watched the alumni for three innings-yes that's all these old guys can play anymore. I'm just thankful that Mark escaped unscathed. He had two put outs in left field...the last one made me a little nervous when he tried to double Jr. Spivey off of at first base. He then hit a home run if he would have been playing in a grain silo"popped up to centerfield!" Mark's team lost 3-0 but he was a winner in our book.

Needless to say I'm pretty sure Jack was the most excited about this trip. What little boy's dream isn't to play catch with his dad on a big league field, hang out in the clubhouse eating an endless amount of sunflower seeds and raiding the bubble gum container. 

 
Aahhh It was nice to be back in Arizona, at Chase Field taking it all in again as life as we once knew it.  
This was the best we could do...kids mouths full of bubble gum!

Try It Tuesday...

Jalapeno Cactus Margarita

Inspired by our Labor Day trip to Scottsdale last weekend we came home and whipped up  these margarita's to celebrate the last day of summer. Don't let the jalapeno and cactus scare you away! It's the perfect balance of spicy and sweet...just enough to remind you of that vacation desert oasis you left behind.  Luckily I found Cheri's prickly pear cactus syrup in the airport on the way out yesterday! 


Here is what you will need:
10 oz. silver tequila
4 oz. grand marnier
1 oz. prickly pear cactus syrup
16-24 oz. lemonade
juice of two limes
1/2 tsp lime zest
jalapeno-3 small slices (remember the more seeds the hotter it will be) 
blender


Fill blender with a little ice and add above ingredients

Here's what ours looked like before we blended


You can always adjust the ingredients to your liking as well. If you like it a little sweeter, add more lemonade or cactus syrup. If you want a little more heat add more jalapeno!

Blend, fill your cup with ice and enjoy!
