Last post for 2013 and our mantra going forward...

We survived the holidays even though
we forgot one of our most treasured traditions...Brandy Alexanders on Christmas Eve. We were not complete heathens and did remember to enjoy them on Christmas night...maybe that's a sign to start some new holiday traditions.

We haven't taken our tree down yet...nor did we take it down before new years last year. 2013 was a pretty great year for us so we are going to continue that tradition for the time being and leave that beauty up until the new year arrives (I believe that next year we are going to take a page out of Team Lantz's playbook and get back to a real tree).

Anyway, I'm not going to bore you with the deets on looking back at 2013 or with a list of my new years resolutions...blah blah blah. But I do hope that with the start of the new year you take time to assess what is working in your life and what is not. Do something that you've always wanted to try and don't regret the thing's that you do just the ones that you don't. Life changes, people change and sometimes it's just time to make changes that benefit you and your team. Surround yourself with people who inspire you, who are positive, who are there to help motivate you. Let's lift each other up and do great things this year. Have fun, be silly and don't take everything so serious. Maybe listen to some rap music...change it up.

Thanks to all who read my blog and I hope you continue to do so.

Last of all be sure to live each day in the merriest of ways...It's our mantra for 2014.

p.s. the black in my armpit is a shadow...I do shave.

Friday Favorites...FabFitFun Winter Box Review!

Remember my FabfitFun Fall 2013 box review back in October?
Well Christmas came early last night when my fabfitfun Winter 2013 box arrived!
There's nothing better than having a box full of surprises waiting for you at your doorstep!
I'm dying to know what is under this card...
Another box full of goodies!

Here's a play by play on what Giuliana and her fab team picked for us.
The Giving Keys Never Ending Necklace:
They key has a message of inspire on it and you wear the key until you meet someone who needs the message more than you. You then pay it forward and give the key away...
Beauty For Real Lip Gloss:
For real yo...this might be the coolest lip gloss I've ever owned. It not only has a mirror on the side of the bottle but with a press of a button it lights up.
Lorna Jane Bracelet:
A symbol of of sisterhood and a daily reminder to Move, Nourish & Believe everyday.
She also included a 20% off coupon to use by the end of the year.
Bioxidea Miracle 24:
A nutrient-infused face mask. The package tells me that it will reduce fine lines and wrinkles...I'll get back to you on this one!
TruEnergy Inspired Earbuds:
These headphones are bright and colorful better yet it has a built-in splitter that allows friends to listen with you. My daughter was way excited about these.
MeUndies Gift Card:
Opening this made me smile...big. I am a huge fan of MeUndies. Their shirts and undies are so soft...I even put their boxer briefs for men on my men's holiday gift guide last week. So I now have $20 dollars to spend here which I will not have a problem doing.
Skyn Iceland Icelandic Relief Eye Cream:
I typically don't buy eye cream but will def give it a try.
Physique 57:
On-line workouts are becoming quite the rage right now. I'm not really a fan but I now have 5 online workouts to try out. I'll let you know how they go.

These last two items are their fave drugstore finds!
Simple Foaming Facial Cleanser & NYX Eye Shadow Palette:
I've seen this brand but have never used it. It has chamomile in it so should help with soften my skin.
Purple is all the rage right now and I now have this eye shadow to help me stay on trend. I'll have to play around with this and see how I like the color.

The value of this box is $271.47. Not too bad for paying $50!
Or sign three people up and get it for free.
If you like surprises and are into trying new items you would not necessarily buy check out FabFitFun. Their spring box will be here before you know it and if you use the coupon code EARLY5 at checkout you will instantly save $5.

TGIF peeps!

Try It Tuesday-Traditions...

Traditions are huge in our family especially around Christmas time. For example, every Christmas morning (even before my time) the family eats eggs brunch casserole (it's the best and I'll have to remember and share that recipe as well), fruit salad & biscuits. This all takes place after the presents have been opened. BTW-We open our presents in the same order and sit in the same spot while doing so. Another tradition that runs in the family is our Christmas Eve drink.

The Brandy Alexander.
It has been a yearly staple around the Lantz household on Christmas Eve for years. It's so yummy and almost like dessert. There used to be a red vest that the "bartender" for the night would wear but it has been M.I.A. for decades...would love to know where that disappeared to. But anyway, vest or no vest the tradition keeps going.

I want to know...do you have any holiday traditions? Holiday drinks?

DIY Try It Tuesday-Filling Wasted Space...

I love the idea of utilizing wasted space in any room.

My daughter's room has two dormers that needed something other than her window benches. I just didn't exactly know what.
My mom found this pic while cruisn' Houzz awhile back and we knew exactly what her dormer needed after seeing this amazing girls room which is set up just like Ryan's.

A built in desk!

Before pic:

Here's how:

1. Mark mounted 2x3's on the wall to support the desktop. Measure the space twice and cut once is what Dad always says...Desk height should be around 29-30". The depth is 24". Make sure that the 2x3 that makes up the depth of the bracing are cut short by the thickness of your plywood (in this case it is 3/4".
2. 3/4 inch plywood with a nice finish was used as the desk top. Take measurements at the window and at the edge of the desk to make sure that the board is cut to fit!
3. Nail 3/4" plywood down with finish nails and countersink for improved finish. Cut apron to place in front of depth 2x3s and nail to front.
4. Caulk all seams with paintable caulk and sand.
5. Finish with your choice of paint x2 and Voila!

It's official...

I'm pretty sure after this weekend it's safe to say that we are officially Texans.
What are the two things you think of when Texas comes to mind?
Football & cheer of course and now my kids do both. I might add that I was reluctant to enroll either one of my children in these Texan institutions...but, when in Rome.

I was surrounded by a lot of makeup and bows... of the gigantic "cheer-kind" all day Saturday.
Ryan's team took home first place in their division only one trophy though for the team. The girls did receive medals for the jumps which added to her hardware.

Having to be at a cheer competition all day sure beat being outside in the thirty degree weather watching the typical drumming put on by the JV Saints that I have grown accustomed to on Saturdays. If you live under a rock or maybe you just don't care too much about football...uh hmm...Jack's Junior Varsity KYF Saints beat the Ravens 19-0 on Saturday at Rhodes Stadium on the turf.  35 degrees with a slight drizzle is not my cup of tea to say the least. However, I wish that I could have been there to cheer the boys on just one last time this season.

Jack's hardware to add to his collection.

Happy Monday Y'all...

Lazy lady's chicken & noodles on Try It Tuesday...

Here's a super easy recipe for a quick version of chicken & noodles that you will want/need during this busy holiday season.
Your family will think you slaved all day in the kitchen making it...seriously.

What you will need:
4 organic chicken breasts
4 cups of organic chicken broth
3/8 c butter
1 box of organic cream of chicken soup
1 pkg egg noodles (I use amish noodles)
crock pot

How to:
Mix above ingredients together in crock pot and cook on low 8-10 hours.
When chicken is fully cooked remove and shred. Add salt to broth mix and turn to high heat until it boils.
Add egg noodles & shredded chicken and cook for 30 minutes or until al dente.

Thanksgiving Day This & That...

This is how we started off Thanksgiving morning...2nd annual Turkey Trot in record time.
Oh by the way it was 37 degrees...maybe that's why we had record time this year.
We decided we would cross the finish line together and that's just what we did...31 minutes. Pretty good for not training for it.

Buttermilk Pie is a Texas tradition. I've never heard of such a thing until we moved here and everyone seems to talk about it during the holidays. I made one this year along with a pumpkin pie.
Please ignore my crust.
This was a hit with the family (too sweet for me) so it will be on the Thanksgiving Day menu...other sides I made will not be but that's a whole other story.

I posted this pic of our girl Junie B Instagram
While we sat at the table eating on Thanksgiving she sat in hers. Btw-these white velvet pumpkins you see in the pic are still on my dining room table even though our Christmas decorations are out. I can't seem to put them away. Check them out at LoveFeastShop...everything is 20% off today.

We ended the night with watching Christmas Vacation-a long time tradition with us and enjoyed a weekend with friends and lots of R&R.

So other than that our outside lights are up, Johnny is back
and it looks a lot like Christmas around here!
