What does the fox say...

My kids came home singing The Fox (What does the fox say?) by Ylvis. I can't seem to get this silly song out of my head. Plus I can't stop wearing my foxxy ring!

I also can't get enough of these items. The fox says to try them out for yourself and they would all make great holiday gifts as well.

A Lifefactory Glass Water Bottle is a great substitute for a plastic water bottle.
There are a lot of options in choosing size, color & lids.

Crate&Barrel 12 6" appetizer plates are my go to for everything!
I use them for breakfast, lunch, dinner and yes appetizers!

French Oak Scent Collection by Restoration Hardware
Nothing says fall & winter are here like this scent does. It is my go to candle scent for this time of year.

Try It Tuesday...

weekend wardrobe...animal print style

Last Friday night I was in my p.j.'s at 6:00. It was cold (48 degrees) and after a long week all I wanted was to be comfy and sitting by a warm fire. Mission accomplished.
Saturday morning brought rain & more cold weather so I busted out my robe...remember this one I found last summer?

Animal print was a theme this weekend...I found myself wearing my faux leopard coat Saturday afternoon.
Every girl needs a fun animal print jacket/ perfect with a t and jeans in my book!

Our Christmas tree is up along with the stockings and a few other decorations. Still can't believe the holidays are here!

We ended Sunday Funday with champs (eggnog for the kiddos) and cheese to celebrate the end of a fantastic week, 15 years of marriage and 3 years to the day we moved to Texas!

Happy Monday!

Wow...what a week!
I'm not sure about you but I am sure looking forward to the weekend.
Yesterday Mark & I celebrated our anniversary...lots of crazy travel years, two kids and one dog later here we are...15 years later:
We were able to sneak in a quick mexican lunch (his choice) yesterday! Wish we could have sneaked in a dinner but that's nearly impossible during the week with all the hustle!

Our plan was to have dessert and bubbles after Jack's football practice, but at 8:30 we decided we would have to wait on the hard stuff until the weekend.

So we substituted the bubbles for milk to go with Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free brownies..tried them? You should. We were quite surprised how tasty they were.

We will be celebrating all weekend long.
Cheers to the freakin' weekend baby, I'm 'bout to have me some fun...who's sings this?

Old Skool Blogger Q & A

Love to kick it old skool like this...
My old skool homegirl Karen posted this on her blog, who saw it on Olive's blog & Jacqueline's blog so I knew I had to join in on the fun.

Your cell phone?
Is usually right next to me unless I'm practicing yoga, running or sleeping. I'm sort of  am addicted to it. It's my connection to all of my 'peeps!

Your significant other?
Mark. I've known him for 29 years and we've been married for 14 years & 364 days.
He's bald, beautiful and all mine! I don't want to ever be without him. Oh and he's the funniest person I know :)

Your hair?
It's fine...literally. Wish I had my son's hair, who has my mom's hair. Have been blonde all my life and now I'm a bronde. Think I'm diggin' it this time around.

Your mother?
I talk to her at least two times a day-sometimes more-everyday. I miss her terribly but am fortunate for how much we get to see each other. We're a lot alike and I truly enjoy spending time with her.

Your father?
Grounded. Humble. Hardest working man I have ever known. I don't talk to him as much as my mom but I text him more than I do my mom. He gets play by play texts during Jack's games.
I'm stubborn like him and proud to call him dad.

Your favorite thing?
My wildfox sweatshirt.

Your dream last night?
If I did, I don't remember it.

Your favorite drink?
Depends on what time during the day:
Morning-Coffee Breakfast-Berry Bliss Smoothie Evening-wine (Chardonnay)

Your dream/goal?
Is to raise my kids to be responsible, caring, hard working, loving, functional, responsible members of society.

The room you are in?
Living room.

Your fear?
Looking back and realizing that I didn't enjoy life and my family to the fullest. I don't want to have any regrets and not take everything so serious...

Where do you want to be in six years?
I will be exactly where I'm supposed to be. I've learned a long time ago not to look too far ahead and to just enjoy the ride. Believe me, I've been on numerous rides the past 14 years  364 days.

Where were you last night?
Home...eating dinner at 7:30.

What are you not?
Into cooking these days.

Not unless they're my homemade blueberry muffins. Guarantee they are the best you will ever have.

One of your wish list items?
A french press.

Where you grew up?
Edwardsville, IL

The last thing you did?
Made my daughter breakfast-english muffin with peanut butter in case you were wondering.

What are you wearing?
Pink & white striped p.j.'s-I'm not one to get up and get dressed right away.

Your t.v.?
Stays off during the day but at night when the kids go to bed is a different story.
I am admitting that I'm a Bravo junkie...Love my Real Housewives , Jeff Lewis & Rachel Zoe (even though she drives me NUTS) ...

Your pets?
I have one but I always say she needs a "jiggy." Junie B. She is a 9 lb. malti-poo that is in my lap at all times when I'm home. I consider her my third child.
Your computer?
MacBook Pro

Your life?
Chaotic, unorganized but I am grateful everyday for it.

Your mood?
Calm, cool &'s still morning!

Missing someone?
My family in Illinois/St. Louis...miss them everyday.

Your car?
Lincoln Navigator L-Black and I have a love/hate relationship with it.

Something you are not wearing?
A bra.

Favorite store?
Nordstrom. One stop shopping.

Your summer?
Non-stop fun. Family. Baseball. Travel. Pool. Relaxing. I'm counting down the days until next summer.

Your favorite color?

When was the last time you laughed?
Yesterday afternoon at my daughter doing impersonations.

Last time you cried?
Last month I teared up at a Charity dinner/auction benefiting the Boys & Girls Country of Houston. The struggles some kids have to go through is heart breaking but the opportunity this organization gives them is AMAZING.

What is one thing on your to-do-list?
To buy a planner for next 2013 really almost over?

Your turn! Feel free to answer as many as you'd like or all of them. Let us know if you play along on your blog too!

Nice to meet you Annie Sloan...

I vowed to myself that I would never do another DIY project after trying to make roman shades for my daughter's room.

Annie Sloan changed that last week.

I had been wanting to paint this cabinet for a while now
I've had this piece for years but didn't want to deal with the hassle of redoing it myself...or paying someone else to do it.  Painting furniture can be so tedious. I thought I could live with it, but the more you tube videos I watched and saw how easy it was to use Annie Sloan chalk paint the more I wanted to try it.
Not one for deliberating, I dove right in and bought the paint.

Annie Sloan is awesome! She offers numerous colors and techniques to paint and her paint is easy to use, especially for the novice painter. I chose Graphite which is a dark gray (the darkest color she makes) and stuck with one color. I did buy her paint brush because it is rounded and they say it works well with the paint...Hook, Line & Sinker.

After using her paint you have to wax to seal it and there are two types that she offers: clear & dark. I chose the dark because I wanted to make it as close to black as I possibly could.
I chose not to buy her wax brush but bought a $7 square white brush from Home Depot to apply the wax with. You can also use an old t shirt, tea towel or cheese cloth to apply. Each will give you a different finish.

Here are my supplies that I used:

This paint goes a long way. I have so much of this quart left over that I have enough to do so many other projects. This might be something that you think about when choosing a color. This quart ran me $38 but I have enough left over to paint a small and a large bathroom vanity.

Here we go...

Her paint dries really fast so you can apply two coats in the same day plus wax. The paint glides on so easily and look ma...No brush marks!

Finished product!

I absolutely love the matte finish this chalk paint gives you and I couldn't be happier with how this piece turned out.

Weekend Wardrobe...

One of my best purchases this fall are my track pants.
They are as comfortable as sweat pants plus you can dress them up or down which makes them a bonus buy.

Last weekend I wore these Wayf Track Pants
{photo courtesy of Nordstrom}
to dinner with a gray t and a jean jacket.

I like  love Level 99 denim. It's an L.A. based designer and the fit is uh-amazing but is still so stylish and trendy.
This is my favorite jean jacket I have ever owned and if you're in the market for a new one I highly suggest you try this brand. I purchased mine from an Austin based boutique at the Nutcracker Market this month but I'm sure you will be able to find it through a search on the internet.

The perfect casual outfit for a night out.

Happy Monday!

Why I dig Instagram...

I follow a lot of people on Instagram and Hollywood Housewife is one of them. This past Wednesday she did a one day project where you document your day by posting pics to Instagram. The idea was to capture your own day in your everyday life...posting pictures you normally wouldn't share (just in case you were wondering why I posted so many pics that day).

Loved it.

Because people are so interesting to me...not in a stalker sort of way but just in a fun way to see how we all connect even though we come from all walks of life.

I've always been a little guarded when it comes to social media. The whole idea of putting pictures out in cyberspace for everyone to see is a little spooky. On the other hand, I have so much fun seeing and keeping up with friends that are scattered around the states that I  have been able to let go little by little and share more through social media.

Instagram has allowed me to connect and be inspired by people I would never have encountered in my everyday life. Obviously, I think it's pretty cool and you might think so too.

If you don't follow me on Instagram, check out my link here. Or you can click on my IG account right from my blog on the right hand side.

Shop 'til ya drop...

The Houston Ballet's Nutcracker Market comes once a year here in Houston at the Reliant Center. That is correct...MARKET and not the ballet. In case you haven't noticed, most people do not listen emphatically and as soon as you say "Nutcracker", it is assumed that you are heading to the ballet. Mark thought that for 2 years but caught on when he noticed all the bags that I was bringing home.

It's a four day holiday shopping wonderland where ladies get together to sip cocktails and shop 'til they drop from hundreds of vendors to get into the holiday spirit.
Yes, there are bars set up throughout the venue to make sure everyone has a good time while shopping.

Mom came down two years ago to experience it and we were there when the doors opened and didn't leave until they kicked us out at the end of the night.
Needless to say my mom and I are shoppers.
She couldn't make it last year but this year her and my sister came down for a girls shopping weekend!

It's always held in the beginning of November and this year it fell on my sister's birthday. It was so wonderful, not only getting to see sis on her birthday, but initiating her into the HBNM. Since my sister isn't a shopper, and it was her birthday I made sure I had mimosa's ready for tailgating before hand in the parking lot! How often does one tailgate before they shop?

I found a great jean jacket and a couple of baseball style t's that are to die for...

We didn't close the market down this year but ended the day at Truluck's for her birthday dinner!

We came home, planked and went straight to bed because we had another full day of shopping ahead of us. It just so happened that Nordstrom was having their women's & kids half yearly sale...lucky us!

As always, I dreaded the drive back to the airport not because it's 45 minutes away but because I always hate to see them go.

Owner of a curled cowhide? If so try this...

I have this lovely white and brown cowhide that greets everyone when they walk through the front door. Every Texan has one right?

It has been the best rug but last month it started to curl up in one spot and I had no idea what to do about it. My neighbor who is an avid hunter told me to put some type of oil on it.
Never happened.
I couldn't take the looks of it anymore so I googled how to flatten a curling cowhide hoping I could find an easy and inexpensive solution.
A link from apartment therapy caught my eye and thanks to this blog my cowhide is back looking beautiful again.

Check it out:
Spray curled areas with water where it is rolled up with water about 5 times on top and bottom of the hide (you don't have to soak it.)

Make sure to put a towel underneath and on top after you finished spraying water.

Put something heavy on top to weigh it down...I chose a basket of baseballs! Go figure right?

I let them set on the hide overnight and guess what?

It worked! My hide back, flat as a board!

Try It Tuesday!

Weekend Wardrobe...

I was glad to fall back this weekend for that extra hour of sleep that we all needed around here. We had another busy weekend and I'm looking forward to a jam packed week due to two very special guests arriving in the middle of the week!

What I wore:
t-shirt/mossimo boyfriend from target
jeans/paige denim
necklace/stella & dot

I am a little obsessed with this phoenix necklace these days. A gem of a lady called me asking to see this piece. It wasn't in my collection so I went ahead and ordered it and it is now one of my favorites for fall.
Thanks Donna for opening my eyes to this beauty!

I also love this phoenix necklace with a plain black t.

Happy Monday!

Thanksgiving Table Inspiration...

Now that we have boo'd our way through Halloween it's time to start thinking about Thanksgiving! Wether we like it or not the holidays have begun.

An email from One King's Lane a couple of days ago  inspired me to mix up my decorating a little this year.

The gold place setting is calling my name...what a statement!

Using mini pumpkins is such a simple and fun way to use name cards on your table when hosting a dinner party. Having name cards makes the guests feel more comfortable knowing they don't have to worry about where they are going to sit.

As always you know I'm crushing on the white place settings.

Here's a few other ideas for your Thanksgiving table scape:
Pictures courtesy of One King's Lane

I think I will have to spray paint my antler's that I found at the Round Top flea market earlier this spring...lovely!

Yes, Thanksgiving is only a few weeks away and I would love to know how will you decorate your table?
Are you formal or more on the relaxed side when it comes to decorating?

cheers to the weekend!
